The Sweet Addiction
Are you addicted to alcohol, drugs or nicotine or do you "just" have a sweet tooth? Sweets are just as addictive as the other substances.
I first noticed and was alarmed by the taste of ginger ale. It had changed and had a chemical taste. Then a favourite cookie (bought it for years) also tasted like chemicals.
My taster is off. I'm getting old -- you know the rationales.
Then I read information from Rutgers University that carbonyl compounds in sodas was increased 10 times by the use of the sweetener High Fructose Corn Syrup. These compounds are responsible for complications in diabetic patients such as foot ulcers, eye damage and neuropathy (nerve damage). The worst compound was identified as methyl glyoxal whose dangers are well documented.
| Dr. Williams said "If you have diabetes avoid HFCS like the plague. If you don't have diabetes, avoid HFCS like the plague." |
I decided to investigate. I read from the following resources, wrote this article and decided to avoid HFCS like the plague for myself and my family.
