Corn Syrup Defence:The topic of High Fructose Corn Syrup is controversial
The food industry is launching PR in favour of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) available at
www.hfcsfacts.com
.
HFCS is promoted as the sweetest of all sugars. They claim it is good for diabetics because it doesn't raise insulin levels. They say it mixes better and is less expensive.
Introduced between 1970 and 1990 its comsumption has increased 1000%. The corn refiners clain that HFCS is no different from other sugars.
In September 2008 the Corn Refiners advertised that HFCS:
- is made from corn
- does not have artificial ingredients
- has same number of calories as sugar or honey
- is nutritionally the same as sugar
- is fine in moderation.
HFCS is controversial. the data I've included in my articles is from well-known doctors. The Department of Agriculture has compiled data directly linking HFCS to skyrocketing diabetes and obesity.
